Before we meet, take a moment and get to know me.
"My one driving vision is to be an IRREPLACEABLE ASSET
in the lives of all my clients; to be the first person they think of for
any and everything financial."
My Personal Background
I have lived in Orange County, California, for all of my life. I am a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Orange. I attended Orange Lutheran High School (class of 1993) and I received my bachelor’s degree in finance from California State University Fullerton in 1998 .
While attending college, I worked at the BJ's Restaurant & Brewery in Brea. Upon graduating, I was offered an opportunity to work directly with the BJ's Corporate Office. Over the next 5 years my role evolved several times, and eventually I settled in as a Financial Analyst reporting to the Executive team. It was in this role that my skills evolved in the areas of forecasting, corporate budgeting, and cash flow management. Although this experience was invaluable, over time, I came to the realization that my heart was guiding me towards a different career path. In 2004, I decided it was time to pursue my passion and become a Financial Advisor.
My life continued to fall into place after meeting my wonderful wife, Carolyn, and we were married in 2009. We are the proud parents of two daughters, Julia (arrived in 2011) and Anna (arrived in 2013) . We call the city of Orange our home and plan to do so for many years going forward. We try our best to keep life fun by staying active with our girls, traveling, and scheduling in a date night whenever possible. We attend St. John’s Lutheran Church in Orange where Carolyn (a former First Grade Teacher) works as an Education specialist and our girls attend school. As well, I am a member of the school board, the endowment committee, and I volunteer several times a year teaching the financial portion of the “Becoming One” class for newlywed couples.
My Path to Becoming a Financial Advisor
Investing caught my attention in 7th grade. It was 1987, and I was taking an elective course titled, The Stock Market. Every day we would learn the new values of our fictional portfolios that included ABC and XYZ stocks. This was all very exciting to me. This also happened to be the same year that we all witnessed Black Monday. On October 19, 1987, my imaginary stock portfolio survived but many real life portfolios were significantly damaged. Even at 12 years old, this event showed me that investing has both the potential for great gains and the possibility of devastating losses.
When I chose the path of a Financial Advisor, I fulfilled a lifelong goal of working in this discipline. I had already been an investor, trading individual stocks and owning Mutual Funds, but I truly wanted to work in the Financial Planning field. So in 2004, I started on my path with Trilogy Financial. Upon "hitting the field," I quickly realized that the finances can be overwhelming and burdensome for many people. Every household can truly benefit from sound professional advice.
After over a decade of working with many wonderful people, I am proud to say that I am a successful Financial Advisor. I have a continually growing family of households that have evolved into rich friendships over the years. I am proud of my practice and the guidance I provide. As my career has evolved, I have learned a lot about planning, incorporating more sophisticated tools, and making it my professional priority to do great work for everyone I help.
Trilogy Financial was Founded in 1999 by President, Jeff Motske, CFP® and Executive Vice President, Kevin Mackintosh . Our firm is an independent, privately-held financial planning firm based in Orange County, CA. Our independence is a tremendous advantage for our clients, being that we are not captive to any proprietary investment products. We have access to virtually all investment solutions; we have the ability to create completely custom portfolios designed to meet our clients’ needs and help them meet their financial objectives.
As an independent financial planning firm, Trilogy Financial is partnered with National Planning Corporation as it's broker dealer to facilitate all securities transactions.
“Financial freedom is not a destination; it’s a way of life. It’s a thousand good decisions in one direction.”
- Jeff Motske, President Trilogy Financial
Dave Ramsey teaches sound principles that are applicable for all aspects of your financial well being. Whether you are in your 20’s and just starting out, in your 40’s and ramping up your savings, or in your 60’s+ and enjoying retirement, his philosophies can be a powerful tool to employ for your ‘financial health’.
I am a true believer in the 7 Baby Steps and the financial freedom that adhering to them can produce. I have attended Dave’s Financial Peace University (FPU), ensuring that the advice and guidance I provide is in line with Dave’s teachings. These goals are very natural for me to adhere to because even before I became Ramsey's Endorsed Local Provider, I was building my own business based upon the same basic principles. I am privileged to have been selected as a Smart Vestor Pro.

My 10 Core Planning Beliefs
1 | MY CLIENTS ARE ALWAYS AT THE HEART OF EVERYTHING I DO.
From our very first form of communication, I am already thinking about how I can help you; how can my knowledge translate into improvements in your future? As the years move forward, I find that some of the most important client conversations are just about life in general, and not so much financially related. I strive to help keep my clients 100% happy 100% of the time. I genuinely care about the lives of my clients and their hopes and dreams for their futures.
2 | SOLID RELATIONSHIPS REQUIRE PERSONAL SHARING.
At our Discovery Meeting, one of my goals is to learn all about you and what motivates you: family history, goals, and priorities – not just your data. Where were you born? How did you meet your spouse or significant other? Why did you choose your profession? What drives you? What scares you? Where do you want to be in 5 years? What might prevent that? Your answers will undoubtedly play a role in how I shape and deliver my financial advice. So when a new challenge arises, my advice will automatically take into consideration your entire picture, because I already know it so well.
3 | DETAILED PLANNING REVOLVES AROUND THE FINANCIAL HOUSE.
Part B of the Discovery Meeting involves capturing a snapshot of your pertinent quantitative data, or what I call the Financial House: Cash Flow, Balance Sheet, Protection Planning, Tax Management, and Estate Preparations. My ability to help you hinges upon the accuracy of this information; and a detailed accurate picture allows me to do great planning work.
4 | CUSTOM TAILORED FINANCIAL PLANS PROVIDE THE MOST VALUABLE AND ACCURATE HELP.
Decision Center Planning is the tool and my background as an analyst will be the driving force to fully implement this powerful planning resource for you. This tool allows me to simplify the complex and intimidating world of financial planning. After all, planning isn't perfection. It is continued progress over time. As we prepare your plan, we will go back through your history, analyze your present circumstances, and discuss viable, tangible options. I will help identify risks in your portfolio that you might overlook and recommend specific, actionable steps that will steer you in the right direction.
5 | Protection Planning is a non-negotiable part of your picture.
Life Insurance and Long Term Care coverage are a critical part of planning for every household I help. Although some would prefer to ignore this topic completely, it is my responsibility to make sure we are evaluating and addressing these needs as a team. Just as we work so hard to build our wealth through savings and investing, it is equally important to protect ourselves and our families should tragedy occur.
6 | Swinging for the fences can be a recipe for stress.
When it comes to my investment management style, I am definitely not a not a home run hitter. Prospective clients that are looking for an investment manager with a crystal ball who can predict the stock market need not meet with me because I am not clairvoyant. As a Financial Advisor I am fully focused on delivering returns in line with clients expectations. By incorporating risk tolerance tools, excellent communication, and custom tailored cash flow planning, I work diligently to deliver rates of return that are consistent with agreed upon expectations.
7 | Knowledge should be constantly evolving.
The world never stops evolving, so neither should my practice. I am committed to continuous learning so that I remain on the cutting edge of technology and planning information. As well, I provide ongoing education for my clients through phone calls, annual review meetings, and my website blog resource.
8 | Excellent communication is the glue that continually strengthens relationships.
Communication is the #1 reason my clients remain with me over the years. I know I must proactively work to keep our relationship updated and progressing together. Calls and emails must be returned ASAP. I want to be the first person you think of when life changes happen, such as a new job, an inheritance, a complication, or a tragedy. Being a trusted resource for talking through ideas and decisions is where I can be most valuable. If I can make a positive impact during these times, I have truly accomplished one of my main goals in helping you.
9 | Success is a long game.
Get rich quick is great if you can make it happen. But for those that have yet to win the lottery, I am here to help. I am here for the duration and not looking to make a “quick buck” from my clients. We will work towards creating reasonable expectations and achievable scenarios in the development and constant monitoring of your Cash Flow Plan. I will be compensated appropriately over time as we work together to create the best possible outcome for your future.
10 | Your financial well-being greatly impacts the quality of your life.
Without worrying about finances, many people experience better relationships, find themselves to be more optimistic about the future , and are able to plan to do the things they enjoy. Great planning provides confidence in pursuing goals and certainty about their financial future. Working towards personal goals and being able to monitor your progress along the way can be very empowering over time.
